Our Read-A-Thon is not just a fun event, but also a fundraiser to support our new school. As we prepare for the upcoming school term, there is still much work to be done, and with work comes expenses. Additionally, we don’t have books for our library yet, and the funds raised from this event will most likely be used to help us purchase them. We believe that involving children in this event will not only promote a love for reading but also help us meet our financial goals.
What’s Your Job?
Reading good books & getting people to sponsor you. (suggested amount is $.01 per page) However,
any rate is accepted.
Who Can Join?
Children & teens from ages 4-14. This is not limited to children who will be attending Union Center or who attend Salem. Anyone is welcome!
Those too young to read on their own may be read to, following the same guidelines as those who can read.
When Is It?
Starting March 5th through April 1st.
Read-A-Thon Guidelines
Participants will:
- Find sponsors to pledge specific amounts per page.
- Read good books that are on their own reading level. Audio books are accepted as long as your child is also following along in the book.
- Register your child by filling out the permission slip with name, age, parent’s name, address, & phone number and return it to Laura Yoder by Sunday, March 5th. You may also register as a family if you don’t wish to keep individual tally for each child.
- Fill out the Reading Log as children complete books. Parent’s initials are required.
- Keep a record of the sponsors’ names and addresses on the Child’s Sponsor List. Receipts are available if you would like to use them. Make checks out to Union Center Christian School.
- At the end of the event, please return all forms and money to Laura Yoder by April 9th.
- Prizes will be awarded as such:

(for those registering as a family your total will be divided evenly among your children) - We will be holding an event at the end of the the read-a-thon for all participants. Date & location are yet to be determined.
